I was very flattered to be asked to be part of this exhibition , being held at the wonderful Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey. There will be 14 very talented artists exhibiting here selling paintings / prints and gifts . Hope to see you there .
I spent yesterday am ( Sun 18th Aug ) helping at Handing In Day for the PACS exhibition , there was some absolutely stunning work being handed in . I always find it very difficult to resist the work of the local ceramicists ! I will be entering 8 paintings in total , 4 framed paintings and 4 unframed that will be available in the browser . Very much looking forward to the exhibition . Below are the paintings / giclee prints I will be entering . The exhibition starts on Wed 21st Aug , do pop by if you're local .
These are the four paintings that I will be exhibiting at TWASI at the wonderful Nature in Art Museum starting Sat 25th to Sunday 2nd June. natureinart.org.uk/ Working on some new paintings for several upcoming exhibitions, quite pleased with this one so far . Just a few more details to add as yet . This one is based on sketches and photos I took whilst holidaying in Cornwall last Summer . One of my favourite places to visit.
I will be exhibiting these four paintings and prints at Petersfield Art Exhibition - Festival Hall Petersfield , GU31 4EA I am taking part in an Exhibtion with TWASI, at Hanbury Hall, Droitwich Spa from 1st - 12th Aug . I have been using some 24 carat gold leaf recently in my work , and trying to find ways to gently add it , as it is such an over powering medium , it can easily overwhelm your artwork .
I've been working on a series of nest studies . Bird's nests have always fascinated me , I think it is just amazing how birds manage to weave the intricate structures with their beaks . Below are a few photos of both finished works , works in progress and sketches . I should say the sketches were done from nests that were set up at a local museum , you shouldn't disturb a nesting bird . I have sketched for as long as I can remember , and if I'm truly honest I get a lot of pleasure from going out and sketching outdoors . I used to paint 'plein air ' , but now find I feel too much pressure to produce a finished painting on the spot , especially if I get onlookers about me . Sketching in a sketchbook , doesn't have the same same pressure , after all it's only a sketchbook !
Whilst out sketching with a local art group , it struck me , that although we were all sketching , we were all also taking photos . With out exception everybody's sketches were more interesting than their photos . A photo captures the entire scene in front of you , and often dulls the shadow areas , although it can be a useful reminder , the sketch captures something else . This is a sketch I painted of a view of East Harting Hants and a photo of the same view . I was thrilled to win the Christopher Parsons Award for Artistic Excellence at the TWASI Exhibition this year ( 2018 ) . Particularly as two of the judges were artistic heroes of mine - Mandy Shepherd and Pip McGarry. The award is for a series of paintings that have to fit a particular set of categories, as I am so fond of painting the Coast , it seemed natural that I chose that theme for my work.
The winning paintings were :- Evening Tide , Ringed Plover, Surf and Sanderlings and Low Tide I will be exhibiting at the wonderful Nature In Art Museum , Twigworth , Gloucestershire. The exhibition runs from 26th May - 3rd June. I will be there demonstrating along with some other very talented members of the TWASI Art Society on Sat 26th May - do pop along if you're in the area. natureinart.org.uk/ 'Evening Tide'

My daughters have been nagging me for some time to do a blog , to be honest I'm not very 'techy' and wasn't really sure what a 'blog' was ! "just write about what you do" my eldest said - so from time to time I'll pop some WIP on here and try to show you my work process ! Archives
